By volunteering, you play an essential role in providing care, compassion, and resources to animals in need.
Ways to volunteer with SAWS
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, both hands-on and behind the scenes.
You do not need to know exactly where you fit - we will help match you based on your skills, interests, and availability.
Ways volunteers may help include:
- Fostering animals – providing temporary care in a home environment. Learn more about fostering on our Foster a Pet page.
- Event and project support, including fundraising events and TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) efforts.
- Administrative and organizational support.
- Communications and outreach, such as social media, emails, and messaging.
- Specialized support roles, based on experience and availability.
- Event-based volunteering - if you are interested in helping with SAWS events or activities, you may be asked to complete a separate event sign-up form in addition to the general volunteer application.
Why the volunteer application is detailed
We know the volunteer application is thorough. That’s because being a SAWS volunteer is meaningful – and important – work.
The application helps us:
- Match volunteers with the right roles
- Ensure the safety of animals and volunteers
- Clarify responsibilities and expectations
- Support the organization’s needs effectively
Our goal is to set every volunteer up for success and ensure responsible, sustainable rescue work.
Applying as a SAWS Consultant abroad
Some application questions are designed for onsite volunteering in Sicily.
If you are applying as aSAWS Consultant abroad, you may see questions that do not apply to you.
Because of Google Forms limitations, some fields must remain required. When needed, simply select: “Not applicable (SAWS Consultant abroad)”.
Your application will still be reviewed normally.
What to expect after you apply
SAWS is an entirely volunteer-run organization, so response time and onboarding availability may vary.
